Decatur County students got to hone their business skills last week, or rather, those that participated in the First Port City Bank Youth Leadership’s winter retreat. Held in the Southern Regional Technical College Student Wellness Center, the group was welcomed by Kyle Staples, followed by April Aldridge, who gave the students lessons on elevator pitches, as well as the importance of formalities like thank you notes. Chandler Hurst with New Hire Solutions also gave students a lecture on the importance of first impressions.
Breakfast and lunch were provided for the students. Following lunch, the students were paired up with various business leaders from around the community for mock interviews, putting what they had learned that day into practice.
The Youth Leadership program is provided in conjunction with the Bainbridge-Decatur County Chamber of Commerce. Chamber President Karen Tobin spoke with the Post-Searchlight about the program. “These students are our future leaders, but they’ve grown considerably since starting,” she said.
February will be a busy month for the Leadership students, with the Amazing Shake mock interview event, a field trip to Chick-fil-A headquarters in Atlanta, and graduation from the program.
