The Decatur County Commissioners met for their first meeting of the month on Tuesday morning. Following the invocation and pledge, the first order of business at the meeting was the election of Chairman and Vice Chairman; it was voted that Pete Stephens and Dennis Brinson would remain Chairman and Vice Chairman respectively. After this, the agenda and minutes from last month’s meetings were approved.
The first item of new business on the agenda was the appointment of the county administrator, attorney and clerk; Attorney Bruce Kirbo, Administrator Alan Thomas and Clerk Michelle West all agreed to continue their current positions.
Next on the agenda, the commissioners considered approval of VOCA allocation funding for the District Attorney’s Office for the fiscal year 2024. According to Thomas, this is an intergovernmental agreement between the Decatur County prosecuting attorney counsel of Georgia and the local district attorney. The amount of federal funds amounts to $133,312, with the match fund requirement of $33,303 being waved. The commissioners approved the funding allocation.
After this, the commissioners considered budget amendments. Thomas described this as a “housekeeping measure”, part of the annual audit process. He stated there would be no net change in the overall budget, and no increase in expenses. The commissioners voted to approve the amendments.
Lastly, the commissioners voted to approve some equipment as surplus.
Following this, the commissioners closed the meeting with their remarks and adjourned.
