For the past few years, the building that once served as both the old post office and board of education has sat on the square, empty and unused. Now, it will finally be open to the public again, under the simple name of The Old Post-Office.
The owner, John Noel, first found out about the building while in Bainbridge for other business two years ago. Originally from Atlanta, he found himself working in Bainbridge on a renovation project. “This is the big crown jewel,” he said. “I saw the front of this building, and I said, ‘That is a keeper.’”
The renovation was a lengthy project, taking roughly a year and-a-half to complete. Now finished, the building serves partly as a bar, as well as an event venue, able to hold everything from weddings, to music performances, to reunions.
In addition to the bar and venue space, the building also offers a couple of suites for rent. “We’ll be able to have about two Air BnB-type units,” Noel said, “similar to the Willis Park Hotel in terms of the finishes.”
Noel described the project as, “A labor of love that has come to fruition, honoring the past that Bainbridge has such a rich history of.”
The Old Post Office held its soft opening last weekend, and plans to hold its grand opening in roughly a month or two.
