Members of the Bainbridge City Council gathered at the Earle May Boat Basin on Friday for this year’s Arbor Day Ceremony. The ceremony began with a prayer by Councilman Gregg Close, followed by a proclamation by Mayor Edward Reynolds, recalling the history of Arbor Day and the importance of trees to the environment and community. As with previous years, the Georgia Forestry Commission was present to participate in the ceremony, including Chief Ranger Bryan Cottles.

This year saw a live oak planted. The city has planted Arbor Day trees for some time now, and has been recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation as a Tree City USA. According to Steve O’Neil, Director of Community and Economic Development, the city has planted 400 pines overall, including 300 loblolly and 100 longleaf, donated by Perry Clements.
