Students compete in the Decatur / Mitchell County Market Hog Show

Pre-club students, 4-H members, and FFA members recently competed in the Decatur / Mitchell County Market Hog Show at the Mitchell County Ag Center in Camilla, Georgia.
Carson Lynn exhibited the Grand Champion Market Hog with his class winning entry weighing 256 pounds. Carson is the son of Jeff and Cara Lynn and is a 12th grade FFA member at Bainbridge High School.
Decatur County 4-H’er, Maci Lynn, exhibited the Reserve Champion Market Hog. Maci is the daughter of Jeff and Cara Lynn and is a 4th grade 4-H’er at Grace Christian Academy.
The 3rd Overall Market Hog was exhibited by Heidi Griffin. Heidi is the daughter of Zack and Brooke Griffin and is a 3rd grade 4-H’er at Hutto Elementary School.
Pre-club showmanship placings (three years old through kindergarten) were: champion – Lane Mixon, 2nd place- Briggs Avery, 3rd place – Beck Landeen, 4th place – Beaux Myers, and 5th place- Leni Myers.
Maci Lynn was named champion junior showman for exhibitors in 3rd – 7th grade. 2nd place was awarded to Heidi Griffin.
Winning senior showmanship for students in grades 9th-12th grade was Carson Lynn. 2nd place honors went to Preston Lynn. 3rd place was awarded to Langston Bennett, and 4th place was awarded to Bailee Brock.
Market hogs in class four had hogs weighing under 200 pounds. Heidi Griffin received 1st place, Charlie Griffin was awarded 2nd place, and Briggs Avery took 3rd place honors. Beck Landeen exhibited the 4th place entry.
Market hog weights in class five ranged from 205 pounds to 224 pounds. Winning the class was Grace Reynolds from Mitchell County. Lane Mixon placed 2nd and Beck Landeen placed 3rd.
230 pounds through 238 pounds were the weight ranges for swine in class six. Langston Bennett was awarded 1st place with his entry weighing 235 pounds and Lane Mixon won 2nd place.
Market hog weights for class seven ranged from 249 pounds to 265 pounds. Carson Lynn was 1st place and Maci Lynn received 2nd place. The 3rd place market hog for class seven was exhibited by Beaux Myers. Bailee Brock placed 4th and Langston Bennett placed 5th.
Winning class eight market hogs with weights ranging from 269 pounds to 280 pounds was Carson Lynn.
Market hog weights in class nine ranged from 290 to 300 pounds. Preston Lynn placed 1st in class and Beaux Myers placed 2nd in class.
Maddie Fugate from Nebraska served as the judge for the 2024 Decatur/Mitchell County Market Hog Show. Maddie was a member of the collegiate livestock judging teams at Lake Land College and Iowa State University.
