Bainbridge freshman gymnast Anniston Brown earned her second of three state-qualifying scores for the all-around category at a Jones County gymnastic meet on Saturday, Mar. 23. She scored a 34.600 at the meet, the qualification threshold is 34.000.
Brown earned her 34.600 with an 8.700 on vault, 8.200 on bars, 8.100 on beam and a 9.600 on the floor.
Sisters, freshman Dhara and junior Bansi Patel represented the Gymcats at the meet as well. Dhara scored a 32.900 all around with an 8.700 on vault, 8.050 on bars, 7.900 on beam and 8.250 on the floor.
Bansi scored a 32.650 all around with an 8.600 on vault, 7.500 on bars, 8.100 on beam and 8.450 on the floor.
“Super proud of our Bainbridge Gymcats for all their hard work and dedication to the sport of gymnastics, Mind, Body and Soul,” said Shirah Brown, the Gymcats team mom and Anniston Brown’s mother, in a Facebook post. “They build each other up and hold each other accountable. They are truly an inspiration. They are small but mighty. They continue to make their mark at every meet and they represent Bainbridge to full potential. They placed 2nd as a team with only 3 team members against schools that have 6-8 team members. It says a lot about their talent, drive and coaching. Well done Gymcats. Keep up the good work.”
Brown gets her chance at a third qualifying score when the Gymcats compete next on April 9 and 10. If she gets that score, she moves on to preliminaries. If she is a top-8 performer at prelims, she punches her ticket to the state championship meet.
