The Decatur County Sheriff’s Office has added two new members to the force with the recent swearing-in of Deputies Zachery Miller and Zachery Lowman. Miller is a graduate of Bainbridge High School as well as an Army Reservist, while Lowman previously worked at Bainbridge Public Safety for two-and-a-half years.

“I joined in the Reserves so I could still be at home, and do this,” Miller said. He stated his inspiration to join law enforcement came from his great-great-grandfather, who had been an Army MP as well as a Decatur County Deputy.

Lowman told the Post-Searchlight that he joined the Sheriff’s Office to be in a position to better help the community, as well as his family, as he lives outside the city limits.

According to Sheriff Wiley Griffin, there is still a need for more officers. “Basically, we have filled these two positions, but we’re still about four short,” he said. Griffin remarked on Miller’s previous participation in the AFJROTC program, saying, “It’s amazing to me why there aren’t 500 people in the ROTC… that’s a good program. We’re lucky that we have an ROTC program here.”

“Both of them are doing well,” he continued, “they’re being trained to follow our policies. We’re excited about both of them, they’re doing a good job. They seem to have the attitude that they want to help people, which is the attitude I want.”
