Michael Rooks Lanier, Jr., 54, of Newton died Sunday, June 16, 2024, at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20 at First Baptist Church in Camilla with interment in Lakeside Baptist Church Cemetery in Newton.

Born May 19, 1970, in Albany, GA, Mr. Lanier was the son of Mamie McConnell Lanier and the late Michael Rooks Lanier, Sr.  Michael was a graduate of Valdosta University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology.  Michael managed Michael’s Market and Station in Newton, since he was running the aisles at 2 years old.  He was a member of Lakeside Baptist Church in Newton.

Survivors include his wife, Heather Hendricks Lanier of Newton;  three daughters, Lillian Harmon Lanier, Abigail Evelyn Lanier, and Michelle Mey Lanier, all of Newton;  his mother, Mamie McConnell Lanier of Newton;  a sister, Mindy Jane Lanier of Newton;  uncle, Charles Castle McConnell, Jr.;  aunt, Betty McConnell;  mother-in-law, Judy Hendricks;  sister-in-law, Amy Dodgen (David);  nephews, Cameron Dodgen and Brady Dodgen.  

Visitation will be 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 19 at Parker-Bramlett Funeral Home in Camilla.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital (donate.lovetotherescue.org), where Michael was a patient in Greenville, SC from 18 months old until he was 21 years old, or the Mitchell Baker Service Center, 65 Industrial Blvd, Camilla, GA 31730, who lovingly serves Michael’s sister, Mindy.
