DOTHAN… Michael Wayne Swicord, United States Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024, at his home in Dothan, Alabama, at the age of seventy-seven (77). Mike loved and lived his entire life 100 miles per hour, often bragging that he would outlive us all.
Mike was the son of the late M.J. and Geraldine (Gerry) Swicord of Bainbridge, Georgia and brother to the late Mary Jane Swicord McCully of Tallahassee, Florida. He grew up hunting, fishing, competitively playing football, running track/field, swimming, drag racing, water skiing, and courting pretty girls. Following in his father’s footsteps, Mike worked with CSX Railroad, until his early retirement in the late 90s. He passionately loved the University of Alabama football and was heartbroken when all three of his grandchildren chose Auburn over his beloved Crimson Tide.
Survivors include his daughters, Kellie Swicord Folger (Chad) of Dothan, Alabama and Christie Swicord Grathwohl (Darwin) of Destin, Florida. He is also survived by the greatest blessings of his life, his grandchildren Conner Folger (Marcie) of Smyrna, Georgia, Mary Grace Dowd (Benjamin) of Columbus, Georgia, and Banks Folger of Dothan, Alabama. Mike was counting down the days in preparation to meet his first great-granddaughter, Frances Folger, plotting all the ways to spoil her rotten.
Mike will truly be missed by all those who knew and loved him, but none more so than his best canine friend, Ezra, who was with him at the end.
Always a patriot, a force to be reckoned with, and defender of the Second Amendment, Mike left a mark on us all. Per his wishes, family/friends are invited to honor him at a small gathering on August 2, 2024, at 11:00 am EST, along the Bainbridge Boat Basin trail (Hatcher Road) of his beloved Flint River in Bainbridge, Georgia.
