Betty Joyce Eakin was born September 27, 1954, in Bainbridge, GA. She married Terry Day in 1975, and they made their home in Decatur County. Joyce sold cars for decades, most recently at RiverBend Ford. She was a member of First Christian Church.
If you Google “if you want to know, just ask”, an image of Joyce will pop up. She was a straight shooter on any subject from cars to Sunday dinner. Family was the light of her life, and she loved cooking when they gathered. Her table was the epitome of food, fun, and fellowship.
Trips to Biloxi and Montgomery made for great stories and often came with the caveat similar to “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.” Georgetown and Eufala were favorite summer destinations where Joyce fished until her heart was content. For family, friends, and customers (whom Joyce thought of as family) the words, “I love you bad and don’t ever forget it” are seared on their hearts.
Survivors include her husband of almost 49 years, Terry D. Day; her children, Bridget Day Whitaker (David) of Bainbridge and Brent Day of Bronwood, GA; her grandchildren, Cody, Brantly & Miranda, Katie, and Taylor; her great-grandchildren, Kendall, Carter, and Aubree; her siblings, Teresa Whitehead (Danny), Becky Bullock, Tony Barber, Kaye Barber Clark (Jason), and John Barber (Elise); her sister-in-law, Sharon Day; and a host of extended family which included her beloved customers. Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson & Merita Barber; her siblings, Ladine Eakin, LW Eakin, Ann Vulgamore, Ben Eakin, and Lamar Eakin; her mother & father-in-law, Welton & Ruby Day; her brother-in-law, Dennis Day; and her niece, Jamie Day.
