Joanne Cloud was born November 10, 1932, in Brinson, GA, the daughter of Ed & Avo Boles Cloud. She was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1949. She attended South Georgia College for one year and married the love of her life, Kenneth D. Newberry in 1950. “Kenny” & Joanne ran Newberry Service Station & Sporting Goods for over twenty years prior to her blazing a new trail as a bank teller with C&S bank. Joanne was a member of Bainbridge Church of Christ.

There were things most everyone knew about “Miss” Joanne aka Grandmama. She collected coins. She loved anything chocolate. She was a master puzzler (jigsaw & word puzzles). And she loved playing Bridge. Close people knew Joanne was a strong steward of her money and often remarked on how you saved yours. She was set in her ways, which were old school, and didn’t budge on her decisions.

Grandmama loved nothing more than to sit at the table observing the comings & goings of the children. Generations remember the days at the Planter Street house, and later Faceville Highway, where a deck of cards or a puzzle were readily available. Grandmama was thoughtful in her gift giving and had everything planned to the letter. Her dry wit and quick comebacks left no stone unturned on her exact thoughts.

Survivors include her children, Keith & Carolyn Newberry; her grandchildren, Keith Jr. & Ellen Newberry, Cara & Jerry Gerdes, and Kadee & Jeremy Whittington; and her great-grandchildren, Knox, Molly, Thomas, Kirbo, Grant, Caroline, and Milly. In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Kenneth D. Newberry; her son, Dale Newberry; and her siblings, Phillip Cloud, Edith Kirksey, and Margaret Holliman.
