Introducing Mariela Castro Salgado, a Hispanic and bilingual nurse practitioner at Magnolia Women’s Center and GA Farmworker Health Clinic. Mariela was born in Mexico, but her family moved to the United States when she was six. She resided in Damascus, a small town close to Blakely. She attended Early County schools and graduated in 2010. Afterwards, Mariela attended Mississippi University for Women and graduated with her nursing degree. She also attended South University and obtained her Master’s degree in Family Practitioner. Mariela has experience working in Donalsonville in the Laboring and Delivery department. She moved to Bainbridge in 2016.

Mariela has always had an interest in OB and women’s health. This interest stems from her childhood. When Mariela was 13, she would translate for her mother at the doctor’s office when she was pregnant with her little brother. Mariela’s mother couldn’t speak English so this situation allowed her to see her little brother being born. Mariela also translated for her mother’s friends. She continued translating until she was 18. So, Mariela was able to witness a lot of births. Mariela stated, “I’ve always been interested in OB ever since I was a little girl. I started translating, and then I went to school and that’s just something I’ve always wanted to work in when I graduated Nursing school.” She continued. “I’m interested in women’s health and especially since there’s not a lot of Hispanic people that work in women’s health. I do think it makes a difference in the care they get because they’re more comfortable seeing someone that speaks their language. So, I’m glad to be able to help the community.”
