Members of the Decatur County Commissioners met on Tuesday, October 22, for their final meeting of the month. Following the approval of the meeting’s agenda and the minutes from the previous meeting, the first item of new business on the agenda was the approval of a change order regarding the rehabilitation of runway 14/32. According to County Administrator Alan Thomas, the runway rehabilitation project was found to not be viable due to a pavement failure during milling. Instead, it will require a full reconstruction and new pavement.
“That alone would be an additional $1,359,631.65 added to the project,” Thomas said. The total cost, he stated, would be $1,496,031.65, which would be added to the initial $3,305,408.74.
Thomas also reminded the commissioners that this project was a joint project with the State of Georgia Department of Transportation, with the DOT funding 75% of the project. He also stated that, due to the high amount of plane traffic on the runway as a result of hunting season, the project would be on hold. DOT must agree to this change order before the project will proceed. The commissioners voted to approve the order.
The next items of new business were the approval of an alcoholic beverage license application and a restaurant license application for Paresh Patel and his business Sidhi 2024, LLC, which were both approved.
After this, the commissioners approved the errors and releases, and delivered their closing remarks before the meeting was adjourned.
