After a similarly rough season as their BHS counterparts, the GCA Cougars were able to end the season not only on a win, but a record-breaking one at that. The Cougars defeated Crisp Academy 76-46, a new record score for Grace.
Several individual players had equally impressive performances that night. Quarterback Owen Earnest had 347 passing yards, with seven passing touchdowns, along with 240 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns.
Dawson Worsley had 207 receiving yards and three receiving touchdowns, while Cade Wells had 114 receiving yards and also three receiving touchdowns. Landon Temples and Jacob Moore also contributed to the team’s defense, both having the most tackles at nine each.
“It was great to finish with a strong performance,” said Coach Richard McClure. “It really gives us some great momentum going into the offseason and helps generate some enthusiasm for next season. This game was definitely a picture of what we, the coaches, knew from the beginning that this team was capable of offensively. It’s unfortunate that it took ten games to finally see it actualized, but that’s the way it goes sometimes.”
McClure stated that he had challenged the seniors to leave a legacy and solid foundation for next year’s players, saying, “they rose to the challenge, played their hearts out, and are leaving quite a legacy for us to go build on! I couldn’t have asked for more.”
