The BHS Varsity Boys Basketball team played against Sumter County on Saturday in the season-opener scrimmage game. Unfortunately, the Bearcats fell to the Panthers, 37-54.
Tyyrese Jones led the team, scoring nine points. Kenyon Thompson followed behind with seven points, and Korbin Bryant with five. Trent Lee and Camryn Scott both scored four points each. Stacey Glenn and Jamarion Cooper both got three points each, and Keion Williams scored two.
“Our boys team is youthful with a lot of holes to fill after graduating 12 seniors over the last two seasons that played a lot of minutes,” said Coach Kelvin Cochran, “So we’ll see some growing pains as we have two seniors, three juniors, seven sophomores and two freshmen competing for spots every day. So I expect a season of growth out of our young team with a bright future from the much needed experience we’ll gain from competition this year.”
He continued, “I thought the boys competed hard and like the girls, I saw some good things we can build on during the game. Again, everyone played during the scrimmage and I like the fact that each one of them went in the game and competed well.”
The Bearcats will play Early County at home this Thursday, the game starts at 7:30 PM.
