The BHS Varsity Girls Basketball team kicked off the season with their scrimmage game on Saturday, traveling to Americus to face off against the Sumter County Panthers. The game was a close on, with the Lady Cats ultimately falling 44-45.
Da’Nydia Campbell led the team through the game, scoring nine points total. Kyra Green and Z’Riah Solomon followed close behind, both scoring eight points each. Hailey Anderson scored six points, while Ahleah Jones and Autumn Oliver both scored five points, and Ta’liyah Ausgood scored three points.
Coach Kelvin Cochran spoke positively of the team and its’ potential: “Our girl’s team is spearheaded by our five seniors but we also have a good mix of underclassmen that will support and learn from this group of seniors throughout the season,” he said.
“Expectations for this team are still unwritten yet for me, as it depends on how well they adapt to the new schemes and our new way of doing things, but the potential for excellence is within them.”
He praised the contributions from multiple players in the game, “which is what needs to happen every outing with this team.”
“I played everyone during the scrimmage to see them in varsity action and get a feel of what they can do against good competition,” he concluded.
