A sizeable crowd flocked to Chason Park last Thursday night for this year’s Christmas at Chason, which has taken the place of the Yuletide Jubilee. The event had a variety of activities to choose from, including putt-putt golf, a mini-train ride for children, a photo booth, as well as pictures with Santa Claus. The Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, Bainbridge Public Safety and the Salvation Army all handed out free food and drinks to people, while Christ United Methodist Church and the Refinery had arts and crafts booths.
There were multiple musical performances throughout the evening, beginning with the BHS band, followed by the Hutto Elementary Chorus, the Southern Dance Collective, and the Grace Church Praise Band.
According to city Special Event Coordinator Claire Phillips, approximately 450 people showed up to the event.
“It was nice to see the community come out,” Phillips said. “We had a great crowd. They said it’s probably one of the best crowds they’ve seen for the Christmas event that we do.”
The city’s next Christmas event will be the annual Christmas parade, scheduled for this Thursday afternoon.
