Grier Albritton was chosen to represent the cheer squad of Grace Christian Academy as a member of the GIAA (Georgia Independent Athletic Association) All-Star cheerleaders. She performed on consecutive nights during halftime of the 3A Championship Game between Valwood and Deerfield-Windsor, which took place at Georgia Southern University.
She cheered at GSU on Saturday, November 23, for the GIAA All-Star Football Game.
Cheering at GSU was a fulfilling experience for Albritton. Engaging and feeling the energy of a packed college stadium was a special moment to cherish and reminisce about.
“As a high school cheerleader at a small private Christian school, you’re accustomed to the familiar hometown crowds,” Albritton said. “But when you can cheer in front of an electrifying audience, it’s truly rewarding for us cheerleaders.”
Albritton has cheered for six years, not including her youth days, and stands 4 feet 10 inches tall. During that weekend, she decided to become a flyer, something in her background but not her forte.
The flyer is the athlete lifted into the air during a stunt or pyramid, responsible for executing aerial poses and movements with precision. Keeping calm and confident while lifting high above the ground requires mental focus and trust in your teammates.
Flyers must be fearless, and that’s precisely what Albritton demonstrated.
“I decided to step out of my comfort zone from my usual base position,” Albritton said. “The learning periods were fast-paced, and we learned our halftime routine the night we performed.”
This season, Albritton was selected as the captain of Grace Christian Academy’s cheer team. One of the biggest obligations she learned this year was the responsibility to plan out every detail for spirit days and game days for the student body.
She exemplifies the labor and tenacity to become a cheerleader with her elaborate planned stunts and choreography.
