Friday morning, Bainbridge High School (BHS) and the Decatur County community came together to cheer on the Fellowship of Christian Athletes All Abilities in the Bearcat Spring Games.

Buses filled with special needs students traveled down Shotwell Street, escorted by police officers in patrol cars and members of The Remaining Few Motorcycle Club. The street was lined with community members and local businesses waving and wishing the athletes good luck.

Steve Brooks, Pastor at Climax Baptist Church, along with a Special Events Committee, coordinated the event. Brooks highlighted the importance of collaboration, stating, “Several components came together to make the event possible, but the community involvement made the biggest difference. The Bearcat Spring Games is the largest event involving Seminole County, Pataula Charter School, and Spring Creek Charter Academy.”

Students from Bainbridge High School and Grace Christian Academy (GCA) volunteered their time to ensure the event’s success. Held annually on the Friday before Spring Break, the games provide an engaging platform for athletes to showcase their abilities.

Upon arriving at BHS, the athletes were greeted with cheers from students, creating an atmosphere of excitement and encouragement. The games in the school gymnasium featured eight unique events, including the 50-yard dash, basketball shooting and dribbling, hoop throw, ring toss, soccer kick, bean bag toss, and a sensory activity room. Brooks remarked, “The event is thrilling for special needs athletes because it fosters involvement. It’s a deeply emotional and special experience for everyone.”

Local businesses and organizations such as Georgia Power, law enforcement officers, and The Remaining Few Motorcycle Club showed their support by donating to the event. Shirts were sold to staff, faculty, and the public to further support the initiative.

The All Abilities Bearcat Spring Games exemplified the power of community, inclusion, and shared joy, leaving a lasting impact on everyone involved.
