There was a lot going U.S. 27/84 bypass this week; unfortunately all of the incidents created emergency situations that kept Bainbridge Public Safety, the Georgia State Patrol and other agencies busy.

At about 7 p.m. Tuesday, a storm brought heavy rain and winds gusting between 35-50 miles per hour through Bainbridge and the surrounding area.

Wind damaged utility poles near the intersection of Georgia 309 South and the U.S. 27 Bypass, causing detours and power outages. Traffic lights near the intersection of College Road and Shotwell Street were also damaged in the storm.

On Thursday afternoon, a truck driver ran off the bypass into an embankment near the Faceville Highway exit. The driver had to be rescued and was taken to the hospital with non-serious injuries.
