The foundation of the food chain

This has been a terrible week for the fishermen, both bass and pole. Everyone sed the water is down a foot and it is clear as tap water.
Shad minnows, eels and cork screw snails are the basic foundation for the food chain in Lake Seminole. Shad minnows mean crank baits on buzzen bait, eels mean plastic worms of all shapes and sizes, while the cork screw snails is basic for shellcrackers and the dropins are left for the bream.
The willow flies are mostly a summertime thing, but everything in the lake will stop and take a taste of it. I took a six-pound bass on a cain pole with one willow fly on the hook. The “o” or “oo” Mepps Spinner or the “Yellow Shyster” or the yellow “Beetle Spin” will do a number on bream, crackers, crappie and small bass, even white bass and an occasional small channel catfish.
The Valdosta Bassmasters fished the Lake Saterday, first place went to Robbie Brooks with 20.23 pounds and big fish at 6.02 pounds; second place went to Andy Gainous with 12.88 pounds, third place went to Wayne Bonnett with 8.63 pounds.
The Hydrilla Gnats fished their club tournament out of Wingate’s on Sunday morning with Greg Jeter taking first with 15.99 pounds, Sean Neel taking second with 11.8 pounds and Chris Neely with 8.60 pounds. We got a good look at Baby Neely with his fishing shirt on, what a keeper!
