A log truck overturned on U.S. 84 East near Climax, scattering pine trees the semi-truck was carrying across both eastbound lanes.
Shortly after 1 p.m., the truck traveled off the highway’s south shoulder and came to rest on its side in the roadside ditch nearing the intersection of Highway 84 East and Main Street in Climax. More than 25 large tree trunks were scattered across the road.
Decatur County Sheriff’s deputies quickly blocked off the busy roadway, diverting motorists through Climax on a detour via Attapulgus-Climax Road around the accident.
The driver of the truck, Derick J. Bradford, declined to go to the hospital, after suffering only minor injuries in the crash. He said he believed the truck’s steering broke as the truck suddenly began to pull to the right. Bradford was driving for MHR Trucking out of Cairo, Ga.
Decatur County Fire and Rescue and Sheriff’s Office along and Georgia State Patrol responded to the crash.
