The Book Nook has reopened its doors at its new location, accompanied by a couple changes to the local bookstore.
On Christmas Eve, the store closed up shop at its long time location on the historic downtown square. Now located at 823 S. Scott St., formerly Lane’s Pharmacy, the business officially reopened on Jan. 13.
Owner Jim Smith says he is pleased with the new location and the change.
“I love the location, and I really like the way the store has come together. It’s a pleasant place, bright and cheerful,” Smith said.
He explained that some remodeling to the building had to take place before the store could reopen. Several offices were removed to free up space for the numerous books for shoppers to peruse with sections including mystery, romance and popular authors, to name a few. A new addition to the store is a “nook” for children’s books located where the old pharmacy counter stood, now carpeted with books covering the wall.
The new store also offers a sitting area for customers to relax and do some reading.
Smith said he also plans to offer Starbucks coffee and newspapers along with another sitting area where customers can catch up on the day’s latest headlines.
Smith has owned the business for seven years, which he purchased as a retirement project following his tenure as a sale representative for a candy company and as the managing editor of The Post-Searchlight.
