Bainbridge High School Lady Cats soccer defender Candace Perkins signed a soccer scholarship Friday with Coach Adel Mohsen’s Andrew Junior College Lady Tigers of Cuthbert, Ga.
Among those looking on as she signed in the Bainbridge High school gymnasium’s hospitality room were Lady Cats head coach Chip Ariail, coach Ken Harrell, who assists with the Lady Cats and Bearcats soccer teams, and his son Chase Harrell.
As a senior this past season, Perkins shared the Lady Cats most valuable defensive player award with Tiffany Pearson. Coach Chip Ariail said Perkins, who was a team captain, put constant defensive pressure on opposing players.
“Candace Perkins is an athletic, enthusiastic and hustling player with a heart on and off the field who gave her all for her team,” coach Ariail said. “Although she helped us a bit at outside midfield, she was primarily a marking back who helped solidify the back line with her grit and determination.
“She began playing the game her freshman year and quickly became a valuable member of the team. She also played basketball for four years and used her competitive skills on the court to help her develop into a soccer player.
“We have appreciated her contributions to our team and we look forward to seeing her take on her next challenge as she ventures to the collegiate level.”
Coach Harrell praised Perkins for her leadership.
“Candace did a great job and always gave an extra effort,” he said. “She would get her teammates together and fire them up.”
