Marguerite Smallwood

A celebration of life service for Marguerite Smallwood, 87, of Fort Valley, Ga., was held Sunday, Jan. 17, at Attapulgus United Methodist Church with the Rev. Lynn Hurley officiating.
Interment followed in Attapulgus Cemetery.
Born Feb. 22, 1922, in Quitman, Ga., Mrs. Smallwood died on Friday, Jan. 15, 2010, at The Church Home For The Aged in Fort Valley, Ga.
Mrs. Smallwood was a graduate of Barwick High School, Abraham Baldwin College and Georgia State College for Women. She received her master’s and education specialist degrees from Florida State University. She taught at Attapulgus High School for 17 years and retired as assistant supervisor of home economics education with the Georgia Department of Education.
In addition to being a member of Methodist churches in Attapulgus, Tifton, Ga., and LaGrange, Ga., Mrs. Smallwood was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, the Mary Will Thompson Sunday School Class at First Methodist Church in LaGrange, The Woman’s Club of LaGrange, and garden clubs in Tifton and LaGrange.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Franklin Smallwood.
Survivors include two daughters, Jean Noble of Centerville, Ga., and Ann Wilder of LaGrange, Ga.; a brother, Herbert Jones of McDonough, Ga.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
