Funeral services for John Ray “Ronnie” Whiddon Jr., 67, of Bainbridge, were held Sept. 14 at Eldorendo Baptist Church with the Rev. Thomas P. Long officiating.

Interment followed at Oak City Cemetery with full military honors. Active pallbearers were Gary Davis, Haisten Wilkinson, Dan Scott, Jim Rentz, Mike Ward, Leroy White and Jerry Muse.

Born Sept. 9, 1942, in Bainbridge, Mr. Whiddon died on Friday, Sept. 11, 2009, at Select Specialty Hospital in Tallahassee, Fla.

Mr. Whiddon was a graduate of Bainbridge High School, Class of 1960. He was a retired aviation machinist mate first class with 20 years of service in the U.S. Navy. He attended Eldorendo Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife, Jean Harvey Whiddon of Bainbridge; three sons, John Morris Whiddon and Michael Wayne Whiddon, both of Milton, Fla., and Shannon Cullifer of Bainbridge; a daughter, Dana Cullifer Maxwell of Bainbridge; a sister, Lillian W. Swicord of Bainbridge; eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of funeral arrangements.
