Funeral services fo Mrs. Serena J. Sanders, 90, of Colquitt, Ga., will be held Saturday, Aug. 8, at 11 a.m. at First Macedonia M.B. Church on Cooktown Road in Decatur County with Pastor Dexter Thurmond officiating.
Interment will follow at the Pilgrim Rest/First Macedonia Cemetery located near the intersection of Georgia Highway 253 and Sanders Road, with Mrs. Sanders’ grandsons serving as active pallbearers.
Born Aug. 5, 1919, in Brinson, Ga., Mrs. Sanders died on Sunday, Aug. 2, 2009, at her residence.
Mrs. Sanders was a resident of Decatur County for 68 years and was a housewife. She was an active member of First Macedonia M.B. Church. She was also active in the Oak City Chapter No. 253 of the Order of the Eastern Star, a Masonic auxiliary organization, and the Cooperative Extension Service’s 4-H Clubs for adult women.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Robert Sanders Jr.
Survivors include five sons, Warner L. Sanders of Rochester, N.Y., Robert Sanders Jr. of Augusta, Ga., and Therman, Murray and Jimmy Sanders, all of Bainbridge; a daughter, Esterene Sanders of Clinton Township, Mich.; two siblings, George Dennis of Miami, Fla., and Madis Dunbar of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Bruton Mortuary is in charge of funeral arrangements.
