Haywood Martin

Funeral services for Haywood Martin, 86, of Bainbridge, will be held Wednesday, April 22, at 2 p.m. at Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Walter Todd, Dr. Carl G. Garnett, Elder Max Childs and Dr. Denton Sumrall officiating.

Interment will follow in the church’s cemetery with Brent Martin, Austin Sumrall, Wesley Sumrall, Eric Boatright, Christopher Woodall and Dustin Shockley serving as active pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Ivey Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be made to Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery, c/o Dorothy Morris, 369 Martin Road, Bainbridge, GA 39817.

Born on July 8, 1922, in Decatur County, Mr. Martin died on Monday, April 20, at Consulate Health Care in Tallahassee, Fla.

He was a graduate of Mount Pleasant High School and served in the Army Air Force during World War II. Mr. Martin was a member of VFW Post 4904, a volunteer for the Mount Pleasant Fire Department and a member of Prosperity Primitive Baptist Church. He was a production supervisor for an aircraft restoration company and owned and operated Martin’s Union 76 and Haywood’s Used Cars for 26 years in Cairo, Ga.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Martin of Bainbridge; his son, Bruce Haywood Martin of Bainbridge; two daughters, Carol M. Sumrall of Meridian, Miss., and Angie M. Slater of Howey-in-the Hills, Fla.; his sister, Dorothy Jean Morris of Bainbridge; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Ivey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
