Myrtle McJenkins

Funeral services for Myrtle Belle Dockery McJenkins, of Tuscaloosa, Ala., were held Monday, Oct. 20, at Memory Chapel Funeral Home with the Revs. Ed King and Wade Griffith officiating.

Burial followed in Memory Hill Gardens with grandsons and grandsons-in-law, Dane Smith, Marc Smith, Christopher Faulkner, John Knox, John Mitchell, and Lane Tyner serving as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Hoyt Nelson, Margaret Odom, Dwight Whinery, Margie Payne, Carla Johnson, friends at Ashbrook Gardens, past employees of West Alabama General Hospital, members or NARFE, former members of the Retired and Ready from Alberta United Methodist Church, former sewing circle of Alberta United Methodist Church, Friendship Class of Alberta United Methodist Church, and all other members of Alberta United Methodist Church of the last 40 years, Dr. Richard Shamblin, Dr. John Mantle, Dr. William Hill, Dr. Krishnamurthy, Dr. Simpson, and employees of DCH Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. McJenkins was born in Fosters, Ala., raised in Moundville, Ala., and died Oct. 16, 2008, at Hospice of West Alabama.

She lived her adult life in Tuscaloosa, and retired from West Alabama General Hospital where she was a dietary assistant. She was a member of Alberta United Methodist Church for more than 40 years. Her husbands, Walter Julian Dockery and James Carey McJenkins preceded her in death.

Survivors include daughters, Julia Faye Dockery Smith of Bainbridge, Ga., Brenda Dockery Conway of Dothan, Ala., and Linda Dockery Johnson of LaPlace, La.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society or Hospice of West Alabama.

Memory Chapel Funeral Home, a Dignity Memorial Provider, of Tuscaloosa was in charge of arrangements.
