The Washington Middle School seventh grade Tigers downed the Bainbridge Middle School seventh grade Bearcats 36-20 Wednesday at Cairo High School’s West Thomas Stadium.
The loss evened the Bearcats’ record to 1-1. They opened their season with a 16-6 road victory over Thomasville’s McIntyre Park Middle School seventh grade Bulldogs on Aug. 31.
Washington’s Tigers took an early 16-0 lead over the Bearcats on Wednesday, scoring on a 5-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and a 20-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, and converting the two-point conversions on runs up the middle.
Bainbridge running back Dalvin Spivie brought the Bearcats right back, returning a second quarter kickoff 65 yards for touchdown to cut the advantage to 16-6. The two-point conversion attempt was no good and that’s the way the half ended.
The Tigers converted three more short runs into touchdowns and added one more two-point conversion to go up 36-6 entering the fourth quarter.
Spivie returned a kickoff 60 yards for a touchdown in the fourth quarter, to cut the Tigers’ lead to 36-12.
The Bearcats retained possession when Spivie successfully converted an onside kick and running back Kerenski Williams scored the Bearcats’ final touchdown on a 50-yard reverse run around the left side. Tadarious Young ran in for the final two-point conversion.
