Junior varsity finishes season on high note

Coach April Powell’s Bainbridge High School junior varsity Lady Cats softball team concluded their outstanding season on a high note Tuesday, posting a 6-4 road victory over the Cairo High School junior varsity Syrupmaids.
The Lady Cats, who were champions of the Bainbridge Junior Varsity Invitational Tournament, finished with a 12-4-1 overall record.
Bainbridge and Cairo both scored single runs in the first inning.
Morgan Phillops reached on a one-out error in the Lady Cats’ first, moved up to second on a wild pitch and came home on a fielder’s choice.
Bainbridge added single runs in the second, third and fourth innings, before concluding its scoring with two in the fifth.
Brittany Moore led off the second with a single and came in on a fielder’s choice.
In the third, Lindsey Griner drew a leadoff walk, stole second and came around to score on a single by Morgan Phillips.
Jordan Graham led off the Lady Cats’ fourth with a single, stole second, moved to third on a passed ball and came in on a passed ball.
The two fifth-inning runs were scored by Megan Vaughn and Malasia Taylor, after they reached base on back-to-back errors. Brittany Moore singled home Vaughn and Taylor scored when Jordan Graham was safe on an error.
