“What a fishy day!” was one of the remarks made, as members of the Climax Golden Agers arrived at the Climax United Methodist Church fellowship hall on Thursday, Oct. 13, for the monthly meeting.
The aroma of fresh cooked fish drifted through the hall as cookers Bob Jones, Butch Mosely, Charles Hadsock and Phillip Dodson brought steaming pans of fried fish through the door. The fish were cooked in Hadsock’s outdoor kitchen.
Treating the Golden Agers to the luncheon was Ron Kirkland and Woodmen of the World Life Insurance Society. Other members of Woodmen of the World attending were: Darryle Hardway, state manager; and field representatives Heather Johnson, Rhonda Parker and Karen Cooper.
As a special presentation, Kirkland presented a Sept. 11 Remembrance flag to Climax Mayor Charles Hadsock, and Commissioner Butch Mosely, for the Climax Volunteer Fire Department. Accepting the flag on behalf of the CVFD, the Mayor thanked Woodmen of the World, and stated the flag would be place in a place of honor in the CVFD building.
Club president Rita Dodson announced that next month would be Thanksgiving and many activities would be taking place in Climax. For the November meeting all members are to bring canned goods or pasta for a food box for the needy.
‘Get Well’ wishes
The following were remembered in prayer due to sickness: Gwen Wingate, Fannie Wells, Tony Williamson, Doris and Foy Hobbs, Lee and Pearle Hamilton, Irene Jones, and Billy and Marguerite Sloan, Terry Vandeamor, Ruth Betts, and the Rev, Wayne McDonald, Ruby Ezell, and Rita Dodson’s mother.
Celebrating birthdays in October were Marlene Free, Catherine Lashley, Sandra Sirmons, and Gwen Wingate.
Chicken Pilau and Grand Old Opry
Friday night, Nov. 25, the Golden Agers will sponsor two events.
First, a Chicken Pilau will be held at the Climax Community Club House at $6 a plate for adults, beginning around 5 p.m. After eating, make plans for a hand-clapping, foot-stomping good time at the Golden Agers-sponsored “Grand Old Opry.”
As always, the Opry will be held in the old Climax School auditorium — now the Head Start school — beginning at 7:30 p.m. Donations will be taken at the door. Sam and Sandra Sirmons promise some old stars will be returning, and maybe some new ones.
Swine Time will follow on Saturday morning, Nov. 26, with many events throughout the day. The Golden Agers’ car for the parade will be driven by Alma Hart. Anyone wanting to ride in the parade should contact her.
