A funeral service for J. W. “Shorty” Floyd, 77, of Bainbridge, will be held Wednesday, Sept. 15 at 2 p.m. at Immanuel Baptist Church with the Rev. Jimmy Dean officiating. Interment will follow at West Bainbridge Cemetery with Duane Floyd, Ashby Floyd, Kenny Roberts, Alex McMillan, Dalton McMillan, Mike Dicks, and Robbie Strickland serving as active pallbearers.
Born April 8, 1933, in Walton County, Fla., Mr. Floyd passed away Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at his residence.
Mr. Floyd owned and operated Floyd Brothers Asphalt for more than 25 and attended Immanuel Baptist Church. He was a former Mason with Orion Masonic Lodge No. 8 F.&A.M. and was a member of the Bainbridge Shriners Club and Hasan Shriners Temple in Albany.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Bailey Floyd; his son, Ronnie Floyd; his brother, Calvin Floyd and his grandchildren, Elizabeth Roberts and Austin Strickland.
Survivors include his sons, Gary Floyd and his wife Diane of Bainbridge, Tim Floyd and his wife Cathy of Climax, and Mike Floyd and his fiancée Shirley Hand of Bainbridge; his daughters, Debra F. Strickland and her husband Ringo of Bainbridge, Ivey F. Stott and her husband Bob of Bainbridge, Lisa Moore Musgrove of Bainbridge, and Cheryl F. Roberts and her fiancé Mike Dicks of Bainbridge; his four sisters, Faye Watson and her husband Jim of Dothan, Ala., Ina Floyd of Quitman, Opal Howell of Tallahassee, and Jennifer Skinner and her husband Thomas of Tallahassee; 15 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
