Funeral services for Mr. Berry C. Smith, 89, of the Sylvania community in Bainbridge, were held Tuesday, Sept. 7 at Sylvania United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Donna Sue Roberts and the Rev. Shane Lovvorn officiating. Interment followed at Sylvania Cemetery.

Born Nov. 2, 1920, in Bainbridge, Mr. Smith passed away Saturday, Sept. 4, 2010, at his residence.

Mr. Smith was the son of Jesse Gordon Smith and Belva E. Smith. He was a carpenter, farmer and a member of Sylvania United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Jimmie Myrl Smith and two sons, Jesse Woodrow Smith and Kenneth Cloud.

Survivors include his daughter, Emma Jean Johnson and her husband Philip of Bainbridge; two grandchildren, Vance Smith and his wife Melissa of Leesburg, Ga., and Whitney Johnson of Bainbridge; his great-grandchildren, Maddi and Carson; his son, Dale Mitchell and his wife Sharon of Bainbridge, and their children, Hali and Thomas.

Ivey Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
