Douglas Stuart

Funeral services for Douglas Stuart, 89, of Storrington, West Sussex, England, were held Aug. 25.
Mr. Stuart was born Jan. 16, 1921, in Hilton, Derbyshire, England. He later moved to Manchester.
He was educated at the Manchester High School for Boys and the Manchester Municipal College of Technology, where he attained his Higher Grade National Certificates in Electrical Engineering.
From 1943 on he held managerial posts in a number of engineering companies in the North of England and South Wales. By 1968, he had become managing director with William Neill and in 1972 became their director and general manager.
After becoming managing director of Vickers Company in Suffolk, he came to the United States to Bainbridge, to become president of a newly acquired Vickers Company. After Vickers sold to Lynch Corp. the family returned to England, where he retired in Suffolk, then Storrington, West Sussex.
Throughout his life Mr. Stuart was a keen sportsman. He played first team club tennis into his 60s in the United States, and tried his hand at badminton, cricket and golf. His main interest was football.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie.
