Funeral services for Jessie Jackson, 82, of Bainbridge, were held Friday, Aug. 20, in the chapel of Bruton Mortuary with the Rev. Willie G. Smiley officiating.
Interment followed in Mount Nebo Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with friends and relatives serving as active pallbearers.
Born July 10, 1928, in Decatur County, Mr. Jackson died on Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Bainbridge.
Mr. Jackson attended Decatur County schools. He worked for the City of Bainbridge from 1969 to 1990. He joined Mount Nebo M.B. Church at an early age and later served as a deacon there, from 1962 until 1990.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Matis Clemmons Jackson; his brother, Charlie; and his two sisters, Bessie and Millie.
Survivors include two sons, Willie Jackson and Earnest Jackson; a daughter, Thelma Jackson; an adopted daughter, Martha Wallace of Orlando, Fla.; two grandchildren, an adopted granddaughter, a step-grandson, a step-great-grandson, two God-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, one brother-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Bruton Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.
