Seniors lead the way on senior day

The Bainbridge High School Lady Cats softball team defeated the Cairo High School Syrupmaids 17-10 Monday night.
Prior to the game, Bainbridge High School principal Tommie Howell congratulated April Thomas and Bria Harris and thanked them for their contributions to the team as senior leaders.
Thomas, daughter of Sharlyn Smith and Lawrence Thomas, was escorted by her mother and her grandmother, Carrie Smith.
Harris, daughter of Candi Harris and Eric Sanders, was escorted by her mother and her grandmother, Marilyn Melton.
The Lady Cats, who are a solid 13-6 on the season, had dropped an away game 8-0 to the Region 1AAAA Thomas County Central Lady Yellow Jackets last Tuesday and a12-0 decision to the Lee County Lady Trojans last Thursday at home.
They played the Americus-Sumter County Lady Panthers Tuesday in Americus.
The Lady Cats jumped out to a 4-1 first inning lead against the Syrupmaids Monday and were in control all the way.
Brianna Wade opened the inning with a single and moved around to third when winning pitcher Caitlyn Cato singled. Wade came in to score and Cato moved up to second on a wild pitch. Morgan Powell’s RBI single got Cato across.
Powell stole third and came in to score on a hard ground out to third by Harris. Kristen Bennett walked and came around to score the fourth run. Harris had an RBI single that put the Bearcats up 7-1 in the bottom of the second.
Thomas singled in Cato with a run to make it 11-1 in the bottom of the third.
Last Tuesday, the Lady Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning.
The Lady Cats bounced back to pose a threat in the bottom of the first. With one out, pitcher Caitlin Cato singled and stole second, but was stranded.
Cato shut out the Thomas County batters in the second and third innings. The Lady Yellow Jackets pushed their final five runs across in the top of the fourth inning.
The Lady Cats threatened in the bottom of the fifth, putting two runners aboard on a walk to second baseman Avis Jackson and a single by shortstop Lindsey Griner.
In last Thursday’s loss to the Lady Trojans, Diamond Bouie singled with two outs in the fourth inning but was stranded.
