Citizens drop off pills

Alan Wilson, a local physician and volunteer for the Decatur County Sheriff’s Department, holds a large box half-full of prescription pills that were dropped off Saturday by citizens. Capt. Gale Bowyer says prescription drug abuse “is a very big problem, bigger than the illicit drug problem.” Most of the drugs that are abused are found in homes, so Saturday’s event was an attempt to keep the pills from falling into the wrong hands and from polluting the water resources when people dispose of them in the toilet.
