A graveside service, with military honors, for J.T. Battle Jr., 74, of Donalsonville, Ga., was held Sunday, Oct. 24, at Friendship Memorial Gardens in Donalsonville with the Rev. Kirk Loyless officiating.

Mr. Battle was born in Marianna, Fla., on April 21, 1936, and died Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, at Southeast Alabama Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.

He served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from American General Life Insurance Company. He was also a member of Friendship United Methodist Church in Donalsonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents J.T. Battle Sr. and Bessie Anderson Battle; his wife, Mathilde Schlager Battle; two daughters, Mathilde and Maria Battle; a sister, Leatha Mae Quartermanch, and a brother, James Battle.

He is survived by a friend, Debra Lane of Donalsonville; a daughter, Andrea Charping; four brothers, Donnie Battle, Lonnie Battle, Billy Battle and Benny Battle; three sisters, Betty Glass, Mary Burgess and Margie O’Neal; two granddaughters and two great-grandchildren.

Evans-Skipper Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
