Mr. Russell Bowen, 86, passed away Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011, at his home in Decatur County. Graveside services were held Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at 2:30 p.m. at Oak City Cemetery, with the Rev. Kent Barwick officiating. The family served as pallbearers.

Mr. Bowen was born Oct. 4, 1925, to Russell Hall Bowen Sr. and Florence Torbert Bowen. He was married to the late Deloris Tipton Bowen. Russell served in the U.S. Navy and served in World War II. He was a watchmaker by trade. Russell enjoyed the outdoors, fishing and looking at wildlife. Mr. Bowen was of the Methodist faith and a life-long resident of Decatur County. He always loved telling jokes with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Delores Tipton Bowen; son, Barry Hall Bowen; and grandchild, Summer Alanis Yarlott.

Russell Bowen Jr. is survived by two daughters, Marsha Gail Bowen (husband, Scott) Johnson of Colquitt, Ga., and Sally J. Bowen (husband, Curtis)Yarlott of Ashland, Mont.; sons, Edgar Ted (wife, Patty) Bowen of Utah, David Hillard (wife, Sandy) Bowen of Bainbridge, Samuel Wade Bowen of Bainbridge, Robert Kent (wife, Sherry) Bowen of Rome, Ga., Dennis Ray Bowen of Climax, and John Stephen (wife, Leann) Bowen of South Carolina; a sister, Georgia Ann Kline of Bainbridge; a cousin, Billy Conley; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Cox-Ware Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
