Bainbridge Public Safety officers responded to several incidents of fighting over the Christmas holiday weekend, according to incident reports.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 24, officers reponded to a report of a fight near the newest group of fields in the Bill Reynolds Sports Park on Cox Avenue. Public Safety Officer Ken Williams reportedly turned on the sideways-facing “alley” lights on his patrol car to get a better look at people leaving the area of the fight.
As Williams turned onto Cox Avenue, he recognized a young man riding in the back of a Ford Crown Victoria. Williams stated he recognized the youth, whom he identified as 18-year-old Jeremy Tanner Jones, and that he had been involved in a fight Friday night at Bishop Park.
Williams stopped the car and asked its driver, a juvenile male, where they were coming from. The driver stated they had been playing basketball at the new basketball courts on Cox Avenue and gave permission for officers to search the vehicle. According to Williams, Jones had been identified by BPS as a suspect in a fight the previous day at Bishop Park, in which gunshots were allegedly fired among a crowd of people.
Inside the vehicle, Williams found a kitchen knife with an approximately 16-inch-long blade, as well as a Glock handgun, which was loaded and had one bullet in the chamber.
Jones and another passenger of the same car, Kawaii Marquis Fountain, 17, 323 Campbell Street, Bainbridge, were both arrested and charged with theft by receiving stolen property. Jones is also facing possible charges for allegedly firing shots into a crowd during the fight at Bishop Park, which happened shortly before 7 p.m. on Friday night, BPS Investigator Chris Jordan said.
Following their response to that incident, officers arrested Roy Dontavious Senior, 20, of 1014 MLK Jr. Drive, Bainbridge, and charged him with criminal trespass. According to an incident report, BPS Captain Robert Humphrey had told Senior to leave the park and not return after an incident within the previous 24 hours.
“There were a series of ongoing fights all over town on Friday that ended up at Bishop Park,” Jordan said Tuesday. “It was the same group we ran into Saturday night [on Cox Avenue].”
Jordan said he was not sure of what caused the fights, other than it was a group of young males in each of the incidents.
During Saturday night’s incident, BPS officers also arrested 19-year-old Brandon Paine Linzy of 417 Georgia Street, Bainbridge. Officers had stopped several cars on Cox Avenue; according to Jordan, they had detained Linzy’s girlfriend for disorderly conduct when he became angry with officers and he was himself arrested. Officers also found a small amount of marijuana in his pocket, Jordan said. Linzy was charged with resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana (less than an ounce).
In an unrelated domestic incident on Christmas Day, BPS arrested Tony Martin Willard, 48, of 801 Martin Street in Bainbridge and charged him with aggravated assault. Willard was in possession of a Bushmaster fully-automatic machine pistol that had been reported stolen in Lawrenceburg, Ky., Jordan said. The investigator said it was rare to find such a firearm “on the street,” as it is considered a military-type weapon.
