A late Bainbridge High School Bearcats rally fell just short here Friday night, as the Warner Robins High School Demons hung on for an 8-6 Region 1-AAAA victory.
It was the first Region 1-AAAA game of the season for the Bearcats, who were 5-3 overall going into Tuesday’s home Region 1-AAAA game with the Thomas County Central High School Yellow Jackets. That game was not completed by press time.
Bainbridge will travel to Warner Robins, Ga., for a 5 p.m. Friday Region 1-AAAA game, against the Houston County High School Bears.
Falling behind 5-0 after one inning, the Bearcats came back with one run in the second, four in the fourth and one run in the fifth to get back in the game. Warner Robins added one run in the third, one run in the fourth and one in the fifth.
Catcher Blake Voyles walked to open the second, stole second and third and came in on a throwing error.
Designated hitter Gunnar Griffin was hit by a pitch with one out to ignite the four-run fourth inning rally. Third baseman Rion Murrah followed with a walk, and second baseman Brandon Bates doubled, driving in Griffin and Murrah.
Shortstop Matt Burke walked and came around to score behind Bates, on a fielder’s choice and an error.
Voyles doubled in the fifth and Griffin later singled to drive him home.
