The Georgia State Patrol has released more details about an accident which injured a construction worker Tuesday afternoon.

According to the GSP’s accident report, Clinton Law, 68, of Dawson, Ga., was injured when a dump truck struck him as he worked on top of a bridge.

Law was listed in good condition at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital on Thursday afternoon, a hospital spokesperson said. He had been taken there by medical helictoper following Tuesday’s accident after suffering an “incapacitating” injury to one of his shoulders, according to the accident report.

The accident took place at approximately 4:15 p.m., on the Georgia 253 South bridge that crosses over Spring Creek, just east of the Seminole County-Decatur County line.

According to the report, Law — who was wearing a reflective safety vest — had stopped vehicles in the highway’s southbound lane in order to mark the road with paint. However, “no warning signs or flag men were being utilized to inform other drivers of work being conducted,” the report stated.

Meanwhile, 32-year-old Darrell Jerome Arnold of Attapulgus, driving a dump truck for Circle B Construction of Attapulgus, was heading southbound and approached the bridge from the north, into a blind curve. Arnold reportedly swerved into the northbound lane to avoid the stopped vehicles. After going through the curve, his truck struck Law, who was knocked back on the roadway.

Trooper First Class David Fretwell of the GSP’s Colquitt, Ga., post investigated the accident.
