The Decatur County Jail has released the names of the five individuals arrested Tuesday for allegedly stealing scrap metal off railroad cars and property belonging to CSX Railroad.

Counterfeit money reported

On Jan. 13, an employee of the Quick Buys store at 167 Whigham Dairy Road reported that a man pre-paid for $40 worth of gas using two $20 bills that turned out to be counterfeit.

The suspect was described as a young white male in a four-door, mid-sized SUV, gold in color, with a mounted roof rack. He had a slender build with short hair, was wearing a red or orange long-sleeved shirt with a blue shirt underneath, khaki pants and sunglasses.

The two $20 bills bore the same serial number. That serial number turned up again on Tuesday, Jan. 17, when Peoples South Bank reported finding a fake $20 bill among money deposited by the Kangaroo Pantry on Tallahassee Highway.

Sheriff’s Investigator Terry Phillips turned over the evidence in the case to the U.S. Secret Service, which investigates counterfeit cases. Anyone with more information about who may have passed the bills is asked to call Investigator Phillips at (229) 248-3044.

On Wednesday, Jan. 18, an employee of the Quick Buys on Whigham Dairy Road reported that a customer tried to use a fake $10 bill at the store. The customer, who was still at the store, told the responding sheriff’s deputy she had received the $10 bill as change from a Bainbridge fast-food restaurant.
