Cindy Dean of Camilla, Ga., the assistant professor of Medical Office Technology at Bainbridge College (BC), has been selected as the 2012 BC Technical Studies Division Rick Perkins Teacher of the Year. She will compete for the regional title during spring semester, said Perkins Award Coordinator Tatyana Pashnyak.

Dean earned an Associate in Business Administration degree from BC, an Associate in Science and Health Information Technology degree from Darton College and a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Valdosta State University. Dean is certified by the American Health Information Management Association as a registered health information technician. She is married to Leonard Dean, the director of plant operations at BC, and they have a daughter, Breanna.

The Rick Perkins Award for Excellence in Instruction honors technical education’s most outstanding instructors. The award has been an on-going statewide event since 1991 and is designed to recognize technical college instructors who make significant contributions to technical education through innovation and leadership in their respective fields. The state Rick Perkins winner serves as an ambassador for technical education in Georgia.
