Cougars take 3rd in tournament

Coach Steve Murr’s Grace Christian Academy Cougars finished third in the recent Corey Jones Memorial Basketball Tournament, in Ashford, Ala.

They defeated the Randolph Southern School Patriots, of Shellman, Ga., by a score of 52-43, and defeated the Northside Methodist Academy Knights, of Dothan, Ala., 55-42.

Phillip Bowen led them to both wins and made the All-Tournament Team.

Murr said he was proud of his players, and coach Mike Harrell’s Lady Cougars players, not only for their efforts on the court, but also for their charitable holiday giving.

“Our boys and girls basketball players held a fund raiser which netted $1,200,” he said. “The funds were used to send a Bainbridge family on a shopping spree.

“The teams were very excited to see the families receive the gifts and grateful for how much God has blessed them by allowing them to give and serve others.”

The Cougars and Lady Cougars will return to action Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, when they host Valdosta’s Highland Christian Academy Eagles and Lady Eagles at Perry Memorial Gymnasium in their annual homecoming games.

The girls’ game will begin at 6 p.m., and the boys’ game will get under way at 7:30 p.m.
