The City of Attapulgus recently received an upgrade to their garbage service by acquiring an new garbage compactor.

The new vehicle is a 2009 Kenilworth Garbage Compactor and is capable of handling 18 yards of solid waste material.

The fully equipped vehicle was purchased by the city for approximately $100,000 and was funded by Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) funding.

Mayor Johnny Medley said the new compactor loads garbage from the rear of the vehicle making it safer than its side-loading predecessor, which served the city for 15 years.
