Two Bainbridge men were arrested Sunday after a concerned citizen reported suspected drug activity on Flemming Street.
Erin Juwan Smith, 21, was arrested and charged with controlled substance – possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and controlled substance – possession of drug-related objects. Clifton Samuel, III, 25, was arrested and charged with controlled substance – possession of marijuana, controlled substance – possession of controlled substance with intent to sell and controlled substance – possession of drug-related objects.
Sunday around 2:30 a.m. Bainbridge Public Safety officers Davina Evans and Chris Avery responded to a drug complaint on Flemming Street and found a dark colored vehicle with two men inside, later identified as Smith and Samuel. Officers saw a bookbag in the front seat and received consent to search the bag.
While searching the bag, PSO Avery found a blunt that smelled like marijuana, and meanwhile, PSO Evans spoke with Smith who “was sweating profusely and acting very nervous,” according to the incident report.
Officers then searched the vehicles and found a container with 21 baggies containing a bluish, crystal-like substance, empty baggies and a small black scale.
“They believe it to be Molly or bath salts,” said BPS Investigator Chip Nix. “It’s definitely a controlled substance.”
Nix said that the quantity confiscated was enough for intent to sell charges.
“Bath salts” is a blanket term used to describe a number of synthetic drugs, and the name comes from instances the drugs were sold disguised as actual bath salts or other similar products.
