Bainbridge athletics to move to five team region for 2016 school year

The Georgia High School Association released region assignments Tuesday for the next reclassification cycle.
Bainbridge High School will be placed in 5A Region 1 along with Thomas County Central High School, Veterans High School in Kathleen, GA, Warner Robins High School, and Harris County High School in Hamilton, GA for at least the next two years.
Unlike the previous two years when Bainbridge played in 4A Region 1 along with schools in a much closer proximity, Bearcat sports teams will spend more time traveling within the new region.
Outside of the 50-mile trip to Thomasville, the average one-way trip to each of the other three schools from Bainbridge will be 150 miles.
“We’ll play wherever they put us, but the travel issues are still a big concern,” Bainbridge athletic director Stan Killough said. “It’s really not that big of a problem in football, but the travel reduces our flexibility with all the other sports.”
GHSA’s 100-mile rule states athletic events cannot be held during the week when a team has to travel more than 100 miles.
The GHSA Executive Committee will ratify the reclassification and region assignments on January 13.
