Bearcat baseball holds on to beat Veterans, falls to Cairo

Bainbridge beat Veterans 5-4 last week, but dropped a 3-0 decision to the Syrupmakers on Monday.
Cairo scored a run in the first inning, and slowly added to their lead over the rest of the game, despite Bainbridge out-hitting the Syrupmakers 5-3.
Cayden Sconyers took the loss for Bainbridge. He went five innings, allowing three runs on three hits and striking out two.
Jackson McCullough, Sam Boutwell, Velasquez, Jaheim Jenkins, and Colton Harrell all had one hit to lead the Bearcats.
Last Thursday, the Bearcats allowed a three-run inning and squashed a late-game rally by the Warhawks to beat Veterans on the road.
Bainbridge pulled away for good with five runs in the fifth inning.
In the fifth, Quayde Hawkins singled on a 3-2 count, scoring one run, Jackson McCullough singled on a 2-1 count, scoring two runs, and an error scored two runs.
Nick Barber was the winning pitcher for Bainbridge. He went five innings, allowing three runs on one hit and striking out ten. Kaleb Varnum and McCullough entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. McCullough recorded the last two outs to earn the save for the Bearcats
Bainbridge tallied eight hits. Hawkins and McCullough each racked up multiple hits for the team. McCullough and Hawkins all had two hits to lead Bainbridge.
